Indian television is getting bigger and better by the day. And going by the trends, the small screen is only expected to grow further, rubbing shoulders with the big screen. We give you a list of 21 shows on television to watch out for, in the coming months that might just bring the year to a perfect end, leaving TRPs soaring and producers dancing to their banks. 1. ‘Bigg Boss: Season 9’ on Colors

No list of television shows can begin without the mention of one of India’s favourite reality shows. And ever since the promos of the upcoming season have started doing rounds, the fans just can’t wait enough. After much speculations around who will and who won’t be locked inside the house, the show’s makers seem set for the launch, which is scheduled to start next month. And if the housemates didn’t provide enough entertainment, superstar Salman Khan will add to the remaining dose of fun. It surely gets bigger and better every time.
2. Tigmanshu Dhulia to do a cameo in Ekta Kapoor’s show
The ace filmmaker will be walking into the TV space yet again, through a cameo inKuch Toh Hai Tere Mere Darmiyaan. He came onboard after Ekta insisted. His last small screen appearance was as Home Minister Bharat Choudhary in Amitabh Bachchan’s fiction debut Yudh last year. The Gangs Of Wasseypur director will be playing himself in an episode of the new show, where a struggling actor will try to impress him at a party.
3. On Air With AIB
Comedy group All India Bakchod (AIB) is ‘super excited’ about its ‘most ambitious’ project. The comedy collective will be launching the news comedy series on Star Network in October. The 20-episode show, that will include 10 in English and 10 in Hindi, will be released first on Hotstar, followed by weekend airing on Star World andStar Plus.
4. The Baraat Series on Zindagi
The famous channel enters the comic genre with this three shows series, with the first one titled Azar Ki Ayegi Baraat that premiered this week. Featuring some of the top notch Pakistani actors like Javed Sheikh, Saba Hameed, Bushra Ansari, Shehryar Zaidi and Samina Ahmad, the entertaining series will also have showsDolly Ki Ayegi Baraat and Takkay Ki Ayegi Baraat.
5. ‘Life Mein Ek Baar: Season 4’
The highly successful show on Fox Life returns with its latest season that promises to be packed with a higher dose of thrill and excitement. This time four friends – Karan Kundra, Sana Saeed, Himarsha Venkatsamy and Natalie Di Luccio will share an exciting journey exploring Hong Kong. The lifestyle and travel channel has rolled out this season to discover the adventurous side of life in the world city. It premieres next month.
6. ‘The Stage’ on Colors Infinity
In a bid to nurture English singing talent in India, the show will give viewers a different take on the music scene in the country. The show is the newly launched channel’s first original production. Hosted by Shibani Dandekar, it will have musicians Vishal Dadlani, Monica Dogra and Ehsaan Noorani as part of the jury panel. Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt, both curators of the channel have been talking good stuff about this upcoming show.
7. TV adaptation of Rajinder Singh Bedi’s ‘Lajwanti’
The period drama based on a short story by the late writer will begin airing on Zee TV this month end. Rajinder Singh Bedi Dwara Rachit Lajwanti is touted as a tribute to the progressive writer. Known for his Urdu fiction, Bedi was also a Hindi film director, screenplay and dialogue writer. Set against the backdrop of partition, the show is based on the love story of Lajwanti and Sunderlal.
8. Aarya Babbar turns TV host
After trying his luck in Bollywood, television seems to have suited Aarya better ever since his stint inside Bigg Boss house. He is now set to host Baasi Khabar with Aarya Babbar on BIG Magic Ganga. The weekend slot bi-weekly series is slated to launch in October. It would be a new social and political spoof/satire in the mix language tone of Hindi and Bhojpuri.
9. Goyenda Ginni on Zee Bangla
The new detective show revolves around Paroma, a housewife who wants to become a detective. Its different concept will have Paroma leading a dual life of a housewife and a detective. The show which was launched this month, has weekly short stories of cases which Paroma solves. The story lines are centered around woman power.
10. Gautam Gulati’s ‘The Big F’
Another actor who boasted of a successful Bigg Boss innings, Gautam Gulati now aims at a bigger television presence. Gautam is debuting as a host of the show that focuses on ordinary young people with secret fantasies having forbidden encounters. The first promo that features Gautam in a lip-lock has already created ripples. Can we expect the same effect from the show as well?
11. Ekta Kapoor ropes in Chetan Bhagat
India’s soap queen has got hold of the bestselling author to give creative inputs for her new show Kuch Toh Hai Tere Mere Darmiyaan. The two had earlier teamed up for Nach Baliye 7. The show will be a love triangle. And if rumours are believed, the show might even be renamed ‘3 States’ since the three protagonists will be from different cultural backgrounds.
12. Comedy Nights Bachao
Two episodes down, and the new show has got to a good start, if TRPs are anything to go by. Channel Colors added to its laughter weekends with popular stand-up comedians Bharti Singh, Krushna Abhishek and Sudesh Lahiri showing their funny sides while taking digs at guest celebrities from both Bollywood and television world. Well, it does look like a mild version of a roast!
13. ‘Look Who’s Talking With Niranjan: Season 2’
Having your favorite Bollywood star in a personal talk with their friend would mean letting down their guards. And if it happens on national television, fans are in for a treat. The celebrity chat show on Zee Café features noted screenwriter and lyricist Niranjan Iyengar in candid conversations with his closest friends from tinsel town. The second season too promises to look at the special moments of the new stars on the block. It’s like a tete-a-tete between two buddies who catch up sans any studio set up or couture dresses. Actors Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor have already made appearance this season, while Sonakshi Sinha, Anushka Sharma and Fawad Khan are yet to feature. Stay glued to your screens.
14. ‘Sumit Sambhal Lega’ on Star Plus
It is an Indian adaptation of the American show, Everybody Loves Raymond. The show revolves around the life of Sumit and his family. Central character Sumit does not take many things seriously, making jokes in nearly every situation and often avoids responsibilities around the house. The new sitcom had a moderate star in August. But many expect it to gain ground soon.
15. ‘Zindagi Abhi Baaki Hai Mere Ghost’ on Life OK
Full New Drama
The comedy show revolves around a family of ghosts haunting a deserted house in Goa. A fisherman arrives to live there and he befriends the wandering souls. The show kicked off in August and stars Dhruv Raj Sharma and Kanika Kotnala in lead roles.
16. ‘Comedy Superstar’ on SAB TV
It seems like this is a year of laughter! The new stand-up comedy show has Sushmita Sen, Sonu Sood and Shekhar Suman on the judges’ panel. A talent hunt, it will scout for the best comedians and potential entertainers from around the country. Its USP is ‘Tongue Twister Challenge’ and judges solving riddles and uploading filmi Dubsmash videos.
17. ‘The Anupam Kher Show: Season 2’

And if it isn’t about humour, then it’s about chat shows or new seasons of chat shows! After its success last year, actor Anupam Kher returns with round two of his interview-based show which tries to extract jewels of experience from Bollywood celebrities. 18. ‘Mid-Wicket Tales With Naseeruddin Shah’ on Epic Channel
Bollywood veterans seem to be taking the small screen route these days. Actor Naseeruddin Shah’s show explores the many untold stories of Indian cricket. He also talks about the humorous side of the game and the various undocumented trivia. Each episode focuses on a different aspect of the game.
19. ‘Spiltsvilla: Season 8’
The new season of the spicy and controversial show replaced Roadies X2 on MTV.Hosted by Sunny Leone and Rannvijay Singh, this one will also be high on drama, love, friendship and betrayal. The show which is in its mid-season started off with 14 girls fighting out to find true love. Just that, this time the focus is on women’s needs and the guys will have to face challenges relating to that aspect. Temperatures are already rising!
20. Stories by Rabindranath Tagore
The show by Barfi director Anurag Basu aims at bringing back the larger audience who had turned towards binging on western shows due to lack of innovative and progressive scripts on mainstream Indian television. The series on Epic channel features some of Tagore’s masterpiece stories like ‘Chokherbali’, ‘Binodini’, ‘Charulata’, ‘Atithi’ and ‘Kabuliwala’.
