Money can’t buy happiness. But still somehow, rich people always seem happy. And who wouldn’t? After all, a few millions in your bank account puts a permanent grin on your face. But while some slog day and night to rake in some moolah, others have all the luck in the world.
Like these lucky pricks right over here. Now I’m not dismissing their hard work. But their hard work notwithstanding, these are some pretty WTF ways of gettin’ rich.
1. Becoming the richest woman in the world. By selling cardboard.
Meet Zhang Yin.
Zhang Yin who? Well Zhang Yin, who in 2010, was named the richest self-made woman in the world by Forbes. And FYI, she beat Oprah Winfrey and J.K. Rowling to bag the top spot.
Wanna know how she did that? By selling cardboard made from waste paper. Fondly called‘raddi’ in India. So much so, that she’s called the ‘cardboard queen’ of Hong Kong.
From selling waste paper, to selling cardboards, Zhang Yin has come a long way. She’s now the owner of Nine Dragons Paper Holdings Limited, the largest paper making company in China.
2. By begging.
Knock Knock. Who’s there? Bharat Jain. Bharat Jain who? Bharat Jain who earns 75,000/- a month just by begging.
Touted as the ‘richest’ beggar in India (oh, the irony!) Bharat Jain has a full time job of 8-10 hours a day. He also owns flats and shops in Mumbai.
And my parents wanted me to become a doctor!
3. By winning a lottery. After getting dumped.
You know what’s worse than getting dumped by your girlfriend? Nothing. Nothing’s worse than that. Maybe that’s why, even God took pity on this poor kid who’d gotten his heart broken and gave him $30.5 million in lottery winnings. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Sandeep Singh.

Imagine, he’d bought the lottery ticket for $4.

Well, all I know is that after my break up, I only had a bottle of Old Monk to console me. Damn! Some people have all the luck in the world.

4. By inheriting an island. With a buried treasure.
You know what’s cooler than inheriting an island? Inheriting an island with a buried treasure. Like a teenager called Josh did.
Since a simple island is just too boring, Josh’s grandfather decided to spice things up a little bit by burying a thermos with antique jewellery and loose gems inside the island.

5. By giving birth to the most number of children.
You might not have heard about Charles Vance Millar. He was this guy. Looked like Alfred Hitchcock. Only 20 kgs lighter.
A practical joker, his last wish was that his property be given to a woman who’d give birth to the most number of children, 10 years after his death. And just in case there was a tie, then the property was to be divided equally.
Talk about having the last laugh.
6. By owning a cat. A grumpy cat.
Most of you might not have heard of Tabatha Bundesen but most of you must’ve seen the internet meme sensation, grumpy cat a.k.a ‘bakchod billi’ as our desi readers like to call it.
Well, it so happens that Tabatha Bundesen is the owner of the grumpy cat.

And while the cat might look grumpy, it’s actually worth $120 million! Looking at it’s face though, we’re bound to believe that money can’t buy happiness.
7. By selling rocks as pets.
Ever tried selling someone a small rock? Chances are, you’d get stoned. But Gary Dahl did exactly that. He made people an offer they couldn’t refuse. He sold them rocks.
For $3.95 each. And that too, way back in 1975. This genius right over here.
These were simple rocks picked up from beaches and the streets. But then, they were packaged, given individual names and kept in straw like nests.
Mind you, back then, you could buy two meals for $3.95. And there were hordes of people dying to buy these useless pieces of rocks as pets. So much so, that Dahl became a millionaire overnight. All thanks to his marketing genius.
8. By taking good care of your master.
Loyalty pays, and how! Ask Kent Adonai, and he’ll agree.

He was so loyal to his master Lord Glenconner, that he ousted his entire family out of his will, and gave his multi-million pounds fortune to him.
