Someone very rightly said, ‘friends are the family we choose for ourselves.’ We love them, have fun with them and fight with them, but there’s no way we’d ever want to get rid of them. Because what would this life be without friends? Often, we come across on-screen friendships that touch our heart, and teach us a thing or two about being a good friend.
Take a look at 13 valuable things we’ve learnt from Hindi films, that we think you should learn too.
1. A good friend can help you become a better version of yourself.
-WAKE UP SID
In Wake Up Sid, Sid helps Ayesha set up a home. But after he’s moved in with her, he learns a lot more. From washing clothes to making the perfect omelette, Ayesha guides him throughout.
2. Never mix competition and friendship.
STUDENT OF THE YEAR
Student Of The Year taught us that competition can ruin the most special bonds. Even though Abhi and Rohan got back to being buddies, they lost out on a lot of precious time. Our advice: keep competition and friendship separate.
3. It doesn’t matter how long you have known each other – a true friend is a true friend.
In Queen, Rani finds Vijaya at the right time. She spends time with her and becomes more independent. In a few days, they create a beautiful connection. Moreover, her relationship with the other three boys in the hostel is equally special and makes us understand that you can find good friends anywhere.
4. Some friends go out of their way for you. They help you learn and rise as a person.
The 1981 Yaarana set explained the depth of friendship like no other film. Bishen (AmjadKhan) gives away everything to help Kishen (Amitabh Bachchan) become a star. The song ‘Tere Jaisa Yaar Kahan’ only added to the essence of their understanding.
5. The right friend motivates you to step out of your comfort zone.
In Dor, Zeenat not only inspires Meera, but also helps her break free. She helps Meera realise her worth and motivates her to follow her heart.
6. Friendship doesn’t need a language. All it needs is understanding.
-KOI MILL GAYA
We are taking you back to Koi Mil Gaya. Do you remember Rohit and Jaadu? Rohit helped Jaadu survive. In return, Jaadu helped him with his condition. Their friendship proved that two very different beings can be great friends too!
7. Great friends make tough times bearable.
In Dostana, Sam, Neha and Kunal are each other’s backbones. That’s the reason they get along like a house on fire. Because ‘yeh dostana kisi bhi plan se zyaada rocking hai.’
8. If you find a friend who is your partner in crime, never let them go.
-HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIYA
Although Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya was a love story, it did highlight Humpty’s friendship with his BFFs. They were all in support of him in the film. Where will you find friends who will get beaten for you? If you have a confidante who’s been there for you through thick and thin, hold on to them.
9. Sometimes, friends become family.
Rewind to Sholay. Enter Jai and Veeru. The duo has been the epitome of friendship in Bollywood. After Jai died in the film, Veeru ensured that his sacrifice wasn’t in vain They were partners in crime, almost like family, and irreplaceable for each other.
10. It’s never too late to apologise.
-DIL CHAHTA HAI
Friendship won’t always be a happy ride. In Dil Chahta Hai, Aakash and Sameer have a fallout for a bit. But eventually, they both realise each other’s importance. Aakash apologises with all his heart and everything goes back to normal. So, if you and your BFF are not on talking terms, you know what to do.
11. If two people can’t be friends, they can’t fall in love either.
-KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI
Let’s go back to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Rahul and Anjali are the best of friends and that’s the reason they fall for each other too!
12. A good friend will never leave you alone.
Can you imagine Munna without Circuit? No way. Circuit’s love, care and loyalty to Munna gave us some serious friendship goals. They truly defined two bodies, one soul.
13. Your true friends will fight for you.
RANG DE BASANTI
In Rang De Basanti, DJ and his friends raise their voice against the injustice that lead to the death of their close friend Ajay (Madhavan). They choose to give up their lives for their friend. There are several emotional moments in the film that make us realise how we’re incomplete without our true friends.
