Captivating And Larger Than Life, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ Is A Classic That’s Definitely Worth Your Money

‘Bajirao Mastani’ is quintessentially Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Larger-than-life sets, soulful music, glorious costumes, and characters entangled in a passionate love story. The film is about the love that dares to blossom between a Brahmin Maratha warrior and a dancer who is half Muslim. Peshwa Bajirao and Mastani.

The film packs the grandeur and romance of ‘Jodha-Akbar’, the dramatic conflict of ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, and the young passion of ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’, but it is so much more than just that. With Bhansali’s brilliant direction, powerful performances by the actors, and exceptional cinematography, the film is a treat for cinema lovers. This is the classic we have all been waiting to end the year with.

Stunning Shots And Epic Battle Scenes – The Film Will Transport You To Another Era

The cinematography is brilliant. Majestic sets, epic-scale battles, everything is reeked in grandeur. Some of the shots are so brilliant they look like royal paintings. The vast battlefield with its Bahubali-esque feel is intimidating enough to set hearts thumping. The court, the palace, and the inner chambers – each location is invested with a character and personality. The aftertaste of the royal world of the Marathas will linger long. Full points to Sudeep Chatterjee for the cinematography; the film literally sparkles under his work.

The plot is not one of the stars of the film. As with most epics, it is predictable and flat. We wish the script had been crispier and meatier, and the director had not sacrificed plot for drama. Bhansali has taken creative license and ignored a few historical facts, yes, and there’s a reason why it’s called fiction.

Ranveer’s Powerful Performance Will Blow You Away

Ranveer, we think, has outdone himself. He has taken the personality of the Maratha warrior Bajirao and made it his own. The Marathi accent rolls out with effortless ease and accuracy, and the bald-headed look with a hint of eccentricity cuts a very authentic picture of a Maratha warrior.

Ranveer with his swag and charm spices things up and takes the movie to another level.  He displays immense maturity and credibility as an actor. It is difficult to believe this is the same flamboyant and eccentric 30-year-old actor who wears his heart on his sleeve all the time.

Priyanka Shines But Deepika Is The Surprise Disappointment

Priyanka, like always, packs a good performance. While the role of the wronged first wife gave her more room for a more layered character portrayal, Priyanka has done it justice with her quiet brilliance.

While Deepika played the character of the young fiery Leela in ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ to perfection, she fails to bring the depth and maturity required in the character of Mastani. The passion and strength of the warrior princess’s character is painfully missing. It’s almost as if you can see through her and watching a film shoot.

Watch the movie to get a glimpse into the 18th-century world of Marathas, watch it to be blown away by Ranveer’s brilliant portrayal of Bajirao, watch it to witness a story of love, passion, intrigue and drama.
