11 Of The Cleanest Public Places In India

Recently, the Swachh Bharat rankings were out and most of the big cities ranked low. According to SB rankings, Mysore was the cleanest, and Delhi was at the 398th position. But that was just about the cities. We’d like to believe that there are public spaces in India that stand out for their cleanliness. So we did a little digging, and here’s what we found.

1. Chandra Taal, Himachal Pradesh

Chandra taal is located in Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, at an altitude of 4300 meters. Various tourists visit this valley every year, and yet it remains one of the most scenic in the country.

2. Mysore Railway Station, Karnataka

We aren’t surprised that Mysore railway station is the cleanest railway station in India, given that the city was ranked highest in Swachh Bharat’s recent rankings. We all know railway stations aren’t really the cleanest places, but this one came as a pleasant surprise.

3. M.G. Road, Gangtok, Sikkim

Sikkim fairs pretty high in the cleanest quotient. And this market is just an example of how the locals of Sikkim are so aware of cleanliness.

4. Rock Garden, Chandigarh

Chandigarh too ranks high on the cleanliness list. And Rock Garden remains one of its well-maintained attractions. Rock Garden is a sculpture garden, spread over 40 acres and it is clean, green and beautiful. If you plan to visit Chandigarh, you cannot miss this garden.

5. Komal Village, Tamil Nadu

Murali Vasudevan, a resident of Komal village, posted some pictures of his village on Quora. He said, ‘one could sleep on the roads.’ Now that’s a little hard to believe, but we are glad such a place exists in India.

6. Mawlynnong, Meghalaya

In 2003, this village was declared the cleanest in Asia. The place is full of natural beauty and people use bamboo dustbins instead of plastic bins.

7. Havelock Island, Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Located 57 km away from Port Blair, Havelock Island is literally in the middle of nowhere. We guess it has to be clean then. But there’s no denying that it’s one of the most breathtaking places in India!

8. Mc Donald’s road, Crawford, Convent Road, and pretty much every other place in Trichy.

Tiruchirappalli – a city in Tamil Nadu is one of the cleanest cities in India. The old school complexes maintain the nearby roads.

9. India Gate, Delhi

India Gate and its surrounding roads are regularly cleaned. It is one of the neatest and cleanest public spaces in the capital city.

10. Swaminarayan Temple, Surat , Gujarat

Surat has shown an unbelievable transformation in the last few years. Today, it stands as one of the cleanest cities in India. The civic authority of the city has been strict about cleanliness on roads and public spaces. There are several sites in Surat that look neat and clean. This temple is just one of them.

11. Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, Mumbai

Hiranandani is a suburban neighbourhood located in Mumbai. The Hiranandani gardens are a part of the residential townships that have been built in Powai. This place has neo-classical architecture and is clean and well organised.
