A new study found that giving up sugar for just 9 days can have a dramatic impact on your body. Sugar strains your metabolism considerably and giving it up even for a short time will give you lower cholesterol levels and better insulin levels.
The study was led by Dr. Robert Lustig, paediatric endocrinologist at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco, USA. He and his team replaced the sugar in the diets of 43 obese children with starch.
“Everything got better,” Dr. Lustig claimed. “These findings support the idea that it is essential for parents to evaluate sugar intake and to be mindful of the health effects of what their children are consuming.”
“After only nine days of fructose restriction, the results are dramatic and consistent from subject to subject,” said senior paper author Jean-Marc Schwarz.
